about

The meaning of this lyric was born out of the difficulty one finds themselves in when they begin the tedious, unrewarding and destructive task of trying to argue with somebody online or via email or text. No matter how good the intentions are you think you have: the probability of being misunderstood is immense and nearly assured.

I believe this is one of the first couple songs that Danny and I began to flesh out together when he initially called me to do what ended up to become this project "Belling The Tiger." We initially sat down with acoustic guitars which is why this song is so heavily reflective of that aesthetic. Duane did a brilliant job here with a complex structure that challenged my sense and understanding of how to mix drums within a stereo space. --MAM

The drum track here fully hybridizes acoustic and electronic drums. It's hard to tell which is which. I tried to keep the sound organic, to fit the acoustic vision originally laid out. --dh

lyrics

A mental illness of the masses, A disaster with consequence
I’m blind inventing what I see, In a sea of anonymity
Their all young and bold and mean, destroying themselves on fire Like gasoline burning through paper, Igniting desire

Youth is wasted on the young, a simple lyric often sung
A hiss, a whistle, blowing past my ears
A generations hope destroyed; our honesty divided
A Northern song gone Southern wrong, A bullet with her name upon it

Extinct? Do you think? It’s too harsh or unpleasant
What of the grim or unpalatable? May be jarring your senses Lunatic? Do you think? A single pitch of discordant

The overtones that call you home, may be jarring you senseless
The bridges all were burned now, And hopefully Our words unplanned are in demand, and truthfully Trials and wins with thicker skins, and sanity
The taste and cheer & haste and fear and dignity

Extinct? Do you think? It’s too harsh or unpleasant
What of the grim or unpalatable? May be jarring your senses Lunatic? Do you think? A single pitch of discordant
The overtones that call you home, may be jarring you senseless Extinct? Do you think? It’s too cold and heartbroken
What of the weak undesirables? May be draining your senses
